The best storytelling organisations are those that have invested in their systems and processes and in the skills of their staff teams, particularly those who have direct access to storytellers.
We run a range of workshops that help you to establish your approach to planning and collaboration, consider the principles of ethical storytelling and understand your obligations around consent. Our practical training courses help you, your frontline staff, volunteers and programme partners develop the skills to identify and capture spine-tingling stories.
The modules below can be delivered as standalone sessions or combined to create longer storytelling masterclasses. We offer in-house training for groups of between eight and 12. Our courses can be delivered online or in the room. Our current public courses can be found on our Eventbrite page.

Smartphone filmmaking
Most of us carry in our pocket the technology needed to make broadcast-quality films. This course covers the basics of filmmaking, including framing and conducting interviews, sound skills, using B Roll effectively and how to avoid easy mistakes.

This is a foundation course aimed at those who have no prior experience of storytelling. It is particularly good for organisations who want to build a culture of storytelling and develop the story gathering skills of programme and frontline teams.

Planning ethical story gathering
This course is aimed at those who manage a story function. It covers how to establish an ethical approach and understand consent obligations, how to map your story needs and create effective briefing processes, and techniques for building story pipeline.

Interview skills
This course can be delivered as a beginner or an advanced course. It explores what makes a good interview, how to plan questions, building rapport, capturing emotion and detail, and how to manage difficult situations.

Photography skills
Our photography course teaches you how to use your camera, but more importantly it teaches you how to get a great shot, whether you’re using a smartphone or the latest DSLR. You will come away with new skills in framing, lighting and using images to tell a story.

Writing brilliant stories
This course is particularly relevant for those who write impact reports, funding proposals and newsletter content. It covers structure, the use of quotes, headlines and introductions, techniques for transporting your reader, and things to avoid.

Verbal storytelling
This training is designed for people who tell their personal story as ambassadors for your organisation. The training includes skills for structuring a verbal story, how to keep audiences listening, maintaining boundaries and seeking support.

Co-creation
Co-creation puts people in control of how their story is told, making your storytelling more authentic. Our support will be tailored to your needs but will include helping you develop the processes, toolkits and training you need to make co-creation a success.
